Cremation Services

Cremation, like burial, is a form of disposition. When a family tells us they want cremation, our question to them is "what else do you want?" Some are surprised to learn that there are several options available. Below are some available options.

Cremation After Services

The body would be present for visitation and funeral service at the funeral home or church. Cremation would follow. We have specially designed caskets that incorporate the cremation container as part of the interior. Once the services are completed, the body is removed along with the cremation container and taken to the crematory. This option allows the family to choose all of the facets of a traditional funeral without the expense of purchasing a casket.

Cremation Before Services

Cremation would take place 24 hours after the death. Arrangements are then made to have a visitation with the ashes/urn present followed by a memorial service. This could be done at the Funeral Home or church. In addition, a procession to the the cemetery could be arranged with committal service at grave side. Pall Bearers and a hearse for the procession could be used. We are one of a few funeral homes in northern Illinois who have funeral equipment designed specifically for this service. Also, if the deceased is a veteran, military services, folding of the flag and gun salute could take place there.

Disposition of Ashes

Disposition of the ashes is a very personal choice, one that should be well thought through. There are several options for the disposition of ashes. These include:

  • Burial or inurnment at the cemetery of your choice.
  • Spreading (This may require a permit at some locations)
  • Keeping them at home.
  • Dispersing them among surviving family members.

In addition to our service Forsythe Gould Funeral Home, Inc. has a large selection of Urns, Urn Vaults, Cremation Keepsakes and Jewelry.

As one can readily see, there are many options available when it comes to cremation. Often times families custom design the services they want. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or requests.
