Obituary

Anton "Tony" A. Tomas, age 77 of Woodridge, IL, passed away on May 31, 2026. Survived by his wife Lita (nee Scaro) Tomas, stepchildren Jean Marie McNamara and Kymberly (nee McNamara) Murphy, grandchildren Sean, Devin, and Trevor Murphy, great aunt Mary Wendell and cousin Sue Pavek. Tony was born in Manhattan, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents Anton and Mildred (nee Pfeiffer) Tomas.

Tony graduated from Roosevelt University of Chicago with his master's degree in music education. He went straight into the U.S. Customs Service after completing his education and maintained the roles of an officer, weapons instructor, and Senior Inspector—contributing exceptional service to our government for 50 strong years. Tony was a master shooter and member of "The Governor's Twenty" while a member of the Illinois Army National Guard, whose shot went above and beyond that of an expert marksman. Within this time, he further served his country with great dedication and honor for 37 years, going from the United States Army Signal Corps to the United States Army Corps of Engineers, attending the U.S. Army's Officer Candidate School in Fort Benning, Georgia, and retiring in 2009 as Lieutenant Colonel. Lita met him when she was assigned to his unit in the 133rd Signal Battalion in the Illinois Army National Guard. His joys in life included saltwater fishing, notably in the Florida Keys, opera music and model railroads. He was also an avid reader, especially regarding military history books. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

No formal visitation will be held. Family and friends are welcome to meet at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home on Monday, June 8th at 1:30 P.M. to line up for procession to Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W Hoff Rd., Elwood Il. 60421.
