Arthur Joseph "Aj"
Prieboy, Jr.
April 18, 1957 – August 27, 2024
Arthur "AJ" Prieboy, age 67, passed away suddenly at his home in Elwood on August 27, 2024.
AJ was born and raised in rural Lockport, graduating from Lockport High School class of 1975, where he excelled on the basketball team. After graduation, AJ started a career of over 30 years, first at Commonwealth Edison, and later for Midwest Generation. AJ spent the entirety of his career in the Operation Department of Joliet Stations 9 & 29, retiring as a Shift Supervisor. Always a sports fan, he was devoted to the Cubs, Bears, and Blackhawks but he cheered hardest for his son and daughter and later his granddaughters while coaching or attending their games. He was a player and lifelong member of the Bettys Boys Athletic Club Softball Team where his "Large" wingspan often proved valuable at 1st Base. AJ enjoyed fishing, and would make an annual trip to Minnesota with his son Leo and cherished friends, the Walsh Boys. Many of their "Tall" fishing tails were shared at the Jackson Township Sportsman Club gatherings. After retirement, AJ (Prie to many) could often be found playing golf with his fellow members and friends at Nettle Creek GC and Morris Country Club. He truly loved golf and embraced both the challenge and camaraderie that came with playing the game. You could always count on AJ to give you the highlights of his most recent rounds on the course. He especially liked to chat about golf with his longtime Cardiologist, Dr. Daniele P. DeGirolami, MD, who after saving his life 23 years ago, became a dear friend. (Special thanks to you our friend "Dr. D" and to the Elwood Fire EMTs for saving his life more than once). Above all, he treasured his time spent with family, especially the laughter and love he shared with his granddaughters, who were his greatest joy.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years Colleen (nee O'Connor), son Leo Prieboy, daughter Jill (Marty) Deaville, granddaughters Lucy and Maisie Deaville, father Arthur Prieboy Sr., sister Joni (Brian) Osterman, brother Michael Prieboy, brother-in-law Leo "Ed" (Jane) O'Connor, sister-in-law Joan (Bob) Warren, brother-in-law Tom (Sherrie) Fellows, brother-in-law Jack Kulak, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special longtime friend Dale Fitch. AJ is proceeded in death by his mother Mary Jane (nee Ludwig) Prieboy, sister Suzi and brother-in-law Bob Rahe, parents-in-law Leo and Lorrayne O'Connor, sister-in-law Carol and brother-in-law Pete Stipanovich, brother-in-law Mike O'Connor, sister-in-law Phyllis Kulak, and sister-in-law Rosemary Fellows.
