Betty Jean (Haynes)
Mccure
May 28, 1940 – April 10, 2026
Betty Jean (Haynes) McCure, age 85 of New Lenox, Illinois, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2026 with her loving family at her side. Survived by her devoted children Barbara Backhus, Matthew McCure, and Scott (Jennifer) McCure, the father of her children Ronald (Fran) McCure, grandkids Emily (Brian) Benninghoff, Kurt (Milena) Backhus, Brett Backhus, Brandon, Timothy, and Ashley McCure, Alivia and Adelynn McCure, David (Pam) Barnhart and Amanda (Tony) Richards, many great-grand and great-great grandkids, and numerous cousins. Preceded in death by her husband Roger D. Brown, Sr. (2025), children Debbie (Ted) Barnhart and David Burgess, her son Michael in infancy, her parents Trannie and Lucille (nee Sanderson) Haynes, and her beloved fur baby Billy who passed on a week prior to her.
Betty spent 26 years serving as administrative clerk for the Will County Sheriff's Office. She thoroughly enjoyed her job and her role in being the sheriff's secretary. She was especially proud to have her own office space to fulfill her duties in. She also made cherished lifelong friends in the early stages of her career at Wieboldt's, which she lovingly referred to as "the glory days." Betty loved her family more than anything. Holidays were significant to her, especially Christmas—with new decorations to boot and trees in every room every year. She would make enough food to fill a street's worth of people; if Betty was cooking, nobody was going to go hungry. Family vacations were also very important to her, and she would not go if every loved one invited could not make it happen. She adored her house, the beautiful yard, and all the flowers that filled it. She had many close-knit friendships with her neighbors. She loved waking up to stare out her window to watch the birds in the morning, with a special love towards the cardinals that visited, of which she viewed as the angels of her husband and sweet children who passed on. Betty's faith had always been important to her, though she had never been baptized. She was finally baptized through Lightways Hospice on February 23, 2026, bringing her the utmost peace and solace to be welcomed into the Lord's kingdom. An incredible mother, grandma, great grandma, great-great grandma, cousin, and friend who will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
A very special thank you to Lightways Hospice for all the grace, attentiveness, and care they paid to Betty in her last few months here.
