Carol Ann Darlinger (nee Kelchner) age 73, of Manhattan passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, February 9, 2023. Survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Frederick Darlinger, her children Eric (Gwenn) Darlinger and Steve (Alison) Darlinger, her grandchildren Jake, Rachel, Deven, Lilly and Jesse, her siblings Robert Kelchner and Mary Kay McDonald, her brother-in-law John Darlinger and her sisters-in-law Dorothy Furzey and Rose (Gary) Adkins, her special cousin Barb Tyschper and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Preceded in death by her parents John and Catherine Kelchner, her parents-in-law Frank and Lil Darlinger, and her sisters-in-law Mary Weirs, Janet Darlinger, Sandy Kelchner and brothers-in-law Tom Tyschper and Tom McDonald. Carol was a graduate of Mother of Sorrows High School, Blue Island. She worked for T.J. Lambert for 13 years and retired from Central Crane after 15 years. Carol loved to golf and shot a "Hole-in-one". She also enjoyed bowling, cross stitching, gardening, collecting Precious Moments, camping at Lake Shore Campground in Portage, IN. and attending all her grandchildren's activities. Carol was a loving wife (even though Fred didn't make it easy), a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, beloved sister and sister-in-law, aunt and friend to many and she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Visitation for Carol will take place on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 from 4-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Funeral service will take place on Thursday, February 16, 2023 beginning with prayers at 10:30 A.M. at the funeral home in procession to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 235 W. North St., Manhattan for 11:00 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.
