Obituary

Carole (Emery) Farkas, age 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by her many friends and family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Carole was born in Danville, IL on December 17, 1941. She married Ronald Farkas on April 4, 1964. She was a graduate of St. Elizabeth School of Nursing and spent her life caring for others. She was everyone's favorite nurse and loved dispensing medical advice. Carole spent her career working in various fields such as labor and delivery, emergency room, school nurse, and also served as a nurses' aide instructor at Joliet Junior College. She ended her career at a long-term care facility, caring for her many residents.

Carole started her family in Charleston, IL before moving them to Manhattan, IL in 1979, where she became a proud and active member of her Manhattan community. She served as the President of the Lincoln-Way Athletic Boosters and made many lifelong friendships. Carole was a dedicated member of St. Joseph Parish, where she served as past CCW President, lector, Eucharistic Minister and CCD teacher. We are sure many Manhattan community members will remember her rather perfect portrayal as Mrs. Claus. Carole was an avid reader, gardener, wonderful cook, and above all, a friend to everyone. Carole never met a stranger; everyone in the world was just a friend she hadn't met yet.

However, Carole's most favorite role was that of grandmother. She could be heard loudly cheering her grandchildren on at their many sporting events and other extracurricular events. She loved singing to her grandchildren, despite their numerous attempts to shush her. Her generosity and kindness towards others left a lasting impression on her grandchildren, who admired her willingness to always lend a helping hand. They also cherished memories of her delicious homemade treats and her ability to whistle in perfect harmony with the birds. Carole's unconditional love and selflessness will always be remembered by those who were fortunate enough to know her.

Carole is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Ronald; children Andy, Sarah (Dave) Clay, and Mary (Dan) Kinsella. She was the very proud grandmother of 9 grandchildren, Colin, Jake, Kate, Grace, Sophia, and Nolan Kinsella, Olivia and Brody Farkas, and Charlie Clay. She is also survived by her sisters, Sandy Smith and Judy Nabors, brother Jim Emery III, and many cherished nieces and nephews. Carole was preceded in death by her parents James and Pauline (Romine) Emery; her sister Tammy Clauson, and her beloved son, Paul Farkas. Carole's love extended not only to her children - Andy, Paul, Sarah, and Mary - but also to numerous individuals who regarded her as a motherly figure. She possessed an exceptional talent for making everyone feel unique and cherished.
