Charles "Carlos" Castañeda Sr., age 91 of Sandwich, IL, passed away at his home on November 28, 2024 with his loving family at his side. Survived by his devoted wife Joyce of 55 years, children Charles (late Debbie) Castañeda Jr., Cristina Mazanec, Patricia (George) Baltazar, and Carolyna Castañeda, grandchildren Evangelia Castañeda, Dylan Mazanec, Danica Mazanec, Erika Baltazar, Aaron Baltazar, Madison Baltazar and Nathan Castañeda, siblings John (Hortensia) Castañeda, Frances (late Robert) Angelo, and Katherine (John) Tellizyn, brother-in-law Raymond (Carole) Serrano, goddaughters Stephanie Shields and Annmarie Serrano-Demoss, numerous nieces and nephews, and faithful canine companion "Annie". Preceded in death by his parents Enrique and Luz Castañeda, siblings John Anthony (Esther) Castañeda, Julio (Shirley) Castañeda, Porfidio (Guadalupe) Castañeda, Manuela (Joseph) Gonzales, Lucy (Alexander) Glaudin, and Henry (Irma) Castañeda, brother-in-law Jack Serrano and sister-in-law Lois Serrano, mother-in-law Petra Reyes and father-in-law Jesus Casillas.
Carlos was dedicated to his career at Rayno Rivet Specialties for 46 years. He proudly served his country as a U.S. Marine during the Korean Conflict and was also a member of the Sandwich American Legion Post 181. He was an avid White Sox fan. Carlos was known to take pride in his yard work and loved watching television, playing cards, bowling, and spending time with his family. Cherished husband, dad, and grandpa who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family would also like to recognize and thank Tiffany Engelman, his primary caretaker, for always being there to take care of him in his final days with a smiling face because "She is an angel on this earth."
Visitation for Carlos will take place on December 5, 2024, from 10:00a.m. to 12:00p.m. at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home. Funeral service will take place the same day at 12:00p.m. also at the funeral home. Interment with full military honors will immediately follow at 2:00p.m. at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL. Arrangements entrusted to Forsythe Gould Funeral Home, 507 S.
