Charles T.
Mccarthy
May 22, 1949 – July 31, 2024
Charles "Charlie/Terry" Terrence McCarthy, age 75 of Manhattan, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at Endeavor Health Edward Hospital in Naperville, Illinois. He is survived by his loving wife Sandra (nee Creagan) of 51 years, his children Kathleen (Jeff) Janson and Michael McCarthy, grandchildren Lee and Scott Janson, brother Tom (Diane) McCarthy, sisters-in-law Karen Creagan, Sue Grant, and Marie McCarthy, brothers-in-law John and Bill (Rosalind) Creagan, and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents John McCarthy and Margaret McCarthy (nee Goldman) and his brother Bob McCarthy.
Charles was a graduate of South Shore High School in Chicago, IL. He worked various jobs until he settled down with Illinois Bell Telephone Company, where he retired from in January of 2012. He was a big fan of the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bears. One of his greatest passions were Lionel model trains that he had a basement full of. He was a Disney Vacation Club Member as well, which allowed him to enjoy annual trips with Sandy, his children, and the grandkids. He was highly dedicated in his involvement with swimming between the Illinois High School Association and Illinois Swimming Officials Association. He had been a swim official for the Illinois Special Olympics at a point in time and spent his later years appointing other officials- acting as a guiding figure for all. Charles was helpful to everyone and extremely handy, especially when it came to electronics. His sense of humor was grand, and he had a way of turning a room full of strangers into friends in little to no time. He was liked and loved by many and will be deeply missed.
