Collin Patrick Maguire, age 22 of Manhattan, IL passed away on September 4th, 2026. He is survived by his parents Matthew T. Maguire Sr. and Diane Barnes-Maguire, brother Matthew T. Maguire Jr. (Liz Condon), paternal grandmother Claudette Maguire, great-great aunt Vicki Wyatt, great aunts and uncles Tom and Vicki McKay, Joseph Crass and Carl Goad, Peggy Bishop, Brian Maguire, Charles Maguire, Barb Maguire, Shirley Barnes, and Dorris Thomas, aunts and uncles James (Beverly) Maguire, Jayne Barnes (John Sims), Sue Knaperek, Leo “Jamie” Jr. (Susan) Barnes, and his closest cousins Shaun (Angie), Tristen, Parker, Erin (Donnie), Easton, Madden, Keith, Emaira, Kevin (Karen), Henry, Karl, Bailey, Caitlin, Wyatt, and Eva-Faith. Also survived by numerous other cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by his maternal great grandmother Anna Crass, paternal grandfather James G Maguire, maternal grandparents Leo J Sr. and Gwenneth Barnes, and great aunts and uncles Mike Maguire, Joanne and Jerry Hudak, Terry Barnes, Carol Harmon, Uncle Rich Knaperek, and his cousin Art Bishop.

Collin was a super-fan of any and all sports, but he particularly loved baseball. When they were playing at home, he loved going out to support and enjoy his favorite team, the Chicago Cubs. He was also an avid railroader, in love with the thrill of chasing active trains and spending time sifting through flea markets, antique stores, and hobby shops for model trains. He was a frequent flyer at these shops, always looking for a new, unique addition to his collection. He also enjoyed watching and running model trains at the Chicagoland Lionel Railroad Club in New Lenox with friends.

Collin was also a proud lifelong Scout that moved up through the ranks to Eagle Scout. He enjoyed long rides on his bike along the Wauponsee Glacial Trail, dabbling in photography, and watching NASCAR. His favorite band was Imagine Dragons, and Collin’s love for all things “indie” didn’t stop at his music taste, as he bought and played many “indie” video games from the Steam platform. Among his favorite video games were Racing Simulator and Gary’s Mod, though he was equally known for playing the paper-and-pencil game Dungeons and Dragons with limitless creativity. While a member of Illinois State University’s Solar Race Car Team he learned how to build and race solar cars for the Electrek American Solar Challenge and Formula Sun Grand Prix races.

When Collin wasn’t watching sports, chasing trains, or playing his favorite games, he could be found diving into a good book. His novels of choice ranged from the fantastical Harry Potter to the supernatural Dresden File mysteries, all the way to historical railroading accounts. He felt the magic in taking trips to Disney with his family throughout his life and in spending time with them altogether. He was a graduate of Manhattan Junior High and Lincoln-Way West High School. He was also a loyal and faithful member of the Methodist Youth Group in town. His fuel for adrenaline, passion for education, strength in community, and love for his family were the largest parts of who he was. A loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, and cousin who left too soon and will be missed so very dearly.

Visitation for Collin will take place on Sunday, September 13, 2026 from 2:00-6:00pm at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held the next day on Monday, September 14, 2026 at 10:00am, also at the funeral home. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park, Joliet, IL.
