Dan was born in Ottawa, IL and was raised in Morris, IL where he resided until he met the love of his life, Carol. It was then that he moved to Manhattan and truly embraced the Manhattan community. Dan was a proud veteran who served his country with the U.S. Marine Corp during Vietnam. He worked and retired from Caterpillar after 43 years. Dan had many hobbies, among them were gardening, reading, traveling with his wife, woodworking and sitting on his new front porch, taking in a beautiful evening. Dan has always been a bike riding enthusiast. In his younger years he rode a road bike hundreds of miles cross country in all sorts of weather. In his latter years after back surgery, he rode his tricycle (recumbent bicycle), often times with Carol, hundreds of miles with a thousand mile goal every year when the weather was nice in and around Manhattan and Manhattan's country roads. Dan had a heart of gold and had a wonderful smile, he was kind, thoughtful, humble, and brave and he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Visitation for Dan will be on Friday, March 5, 2021 from 3-5:00 P.M. at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home, Manhattan. Funeral service will be the same evening at 5:00 P.M. also at the funeral home with Pastor Paul Vroom officiating. Interment will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at a later date.
