David R. Cochran, age 71 of Manhattan passed away peacefully at Rosewood Care Center on Friday, December 8, 2017 with his family at his side. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Sandra (nee Thornton) daughter Michelle (Bruce) Melhorn, twin brother William Cochran, niece Carrie (Joey) Watson, nephew Jason (Stacey) Cochran, great nephews Jace and Will, great nieces Jaylee and Maggie; numerous other nephews and nieces; "other daughter" Amy Wilson; brothers-in-law Dennis (Cathy) Thornton, Roger (Marge) Thornton, Larry (Rita) Thornton; sister-in-law Shirley (Rich) Clement.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Frank and Bernadean Cochran; Maternal grandparents Sam and Audra Duty; sister Donna Cochran; Parents-in-law Clark and Edith Thornton.
David grew up in Anna, IL. He joined the reserves in his junior year of high school and served in the U.S. Navy after his graduation. After several different jobs he focused on security and worked for American Bank Note for over 20 years. He was a resident of Manhattan since 1968, and a member of Manhattan American Legion. He was a proud card carrying NRA member and a certified gun safety instructor. He loved to fish and considered his pick-up truck his mobile tackle box. He made it his goal to see 50 years of marriage with his loving wife Sandra. Together they achieved that goal. He was a loving husband and proud father who will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 13 from 3:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Forsythe Gould Funeral home, Manhattan. Funeral Service for David will be Thursday, December 14, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. Interment with full military honors will be presented by Manhattan American Legion Post #935 at 11:30 A.M. at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.
In Lieu of flowers donations to the Manhattan Fire Department or Joliet Area Community Hospice would be greatly appreciated.
