Donald J. Bernhard, age 91, of Manhattan, passed away peacefully with family at his side on Friday, April 8, 2016 at Salem Village Nursing Home. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Phyllis (nee Stukel), one daughter, Donna (Larry) Jagmin of Frankfort, three sons, John (Mary) of Manhattan, Richard Bernhard of New Lenox, and Thomas (Joyce) of Columbia City, IN., seven grandchildren, one sister, Mary Agnes (Don) McLaughlin, one sister-in-law, Lois Bernhard, one brother-in-law, Dr. James J. (Joan) Stukel and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Agnes Bernhard, one brother, Leo E., and one nephew Dan McLaughlin. Don and Phyllis farmed all their lives together in the Green Garden Area. He was a graduate of Joliet Catholic High School Class of 1942. and was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Manhattan. Funeral service for Don will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, April 11, 2016 from Forsythe Gould Funeral Home in procession to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 235 W. North St., Manhattan, for 11:30 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation will be the same day from 9-11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, Manhattan. Memorials in Don's name to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to Joliet Area Community Hospice would be most appreciated.
