Fay
May 20, 1933 – January 10, 2024
Donald William Fay, age 90, of Manhattan, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Lightways Hospice Home with his loving family at his side. Survived by his wife of 69 years Ethel (nee Solberg), children Rhonda (Mike) Tordai, Shelley (Jim) Wedster, grandchildren Jessica (Ryan Butzler) Coffel, Michelle (Tony Sampugna) Coffel, and Jamie Wedster, three great grandchildren Liam, Ryan, and Aria and nephew Carl Peters. Preceded in death by his parents William and Bertha (nee Hughes) Fay and several siblings. Don was a proud veteran serving his country with the United States Navy while stationed in Bermuda. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Manhattan Fire Department for 25 years. Don and his wife Ethel were lifetime members of Wilton Center Federated Church now known as Faith Connection Church in Wilton Center. Don was a plumber and eventually owned and operated his own plumbing business along with Robert Borden. After retiring at age 65, Don kept receiving plumbing calls. These loyal customers allowed Don and Ethel a way to snowbird to Florida for several years. Don and Ethel also had a backyard swimming pool. Don's daughters remember fondly the countless hours of swimming in that pool with their own children. Don will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Visitation for Don will be on Thursday, January 18, 2024 from 10:30 A.M. – 12:30 P.M. at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home. Funeral service will take place the same day at 12:30 P.M. also at the funeral home. Interment with committal service and full military honors will take place immediately following the funeral service at 2:00 P.M. at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL. The Fay family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Lightways Hospice for their unfailing compassion and attention while Don was in their care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Don's name to Lightways Hospice, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, IL 60431 and would be most appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Forsythe Gould Funeral Home, 507 S. State St., Manhattan, IL 60442, 815-478-3321. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.forsythegouldfh.com.
