Donald E. Gilleland, age 94, of Manhattan passed away peacefully with family at his side on Friday, November 11, 2022, at The Cottages of New Lenox. He is survived by his children, Donald Gilleland and Deborah (Walter) King, grandchildren, Jeffery Gilleland, Ashley (Patrick) Murphey, David King, and Victoria (Eric) Duttlinger, great-grandchildren, Raegan, Ayden, Dominick, Luca, Presley, Austin, Payton, Reagan, Olin, Jaxson, Addison and Aubrey. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jeanette (nee Scarth) and parents, Chauncey and Anna (nee Bennett) and brother, CL (Mausko) Gilleland. Don was born in Corpus Christi, Texas and came to the Manhattan area at age 14. He loved farming and began to work for Tyler and Sons in Elwood in 1968. It was said that he wouldn't drive anything but a Ford. In his spare time, Don and Jeanette would take RV trips across the country and they spent many winter months in Florida. Most of all, Don loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed. Private family only services for Don will be held.
