Obituary

Donald R. Kaner, age 92, of Crest Hill, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at St. Patrick’s Residence in Naperville. He is survived by his nieces and nephews Richard (Patricia) Sweeney, John (Veronica) Sweeney, Debra Pratl, Guy (Susan) Sweeney, Kimberly (Frank) Capuani, Kurt (Leticia) Kaner, one sister-in-law, Pauline Kaner, and numerous great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Anna (née Ludvik) Kaner; his sister, Mary Dolores Sweeney; his brother, Kenneth G. Kaner; and one niece and nephew-in-law, Dolores and Richard Gesiorski. Don was a graduate of St. Rita High School. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958. Don then worked for several years for Wallace Business Forms Printing until his retirement. Don enjoyed horse racing and watching the Chicago Bears and Cubs and was known as a sharp dresser, earning the name “Dapper Don." While Don had many other interests, he took most joy in spending time with his family, and he so looked forward to family get-togethers. A devoted brother and dear uncle who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Visitation for Don will take place on Thursday, October 8, 2026, from 9:00am until 11:00am at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home, Manhattan. Prayers will be said at 11:00am, followed by a procession to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 235 W. North St., Manhattan, IL, for a 11:30am Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will immediately follow at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery, Alsip, IL. Arrangements entrusted to Forsythe Gould Funeral Home, 507 S.
