Donald C.
Matthiesen "Don"
August 27, 1960 – October 21, 2025
Donald C. Matthiesen "Don", age 65 of Odell, IL passed away unexpectedly on October 21, 2025 with his loving wife at his side. Survived by his wife Kimberly Matthiesen (nee Balmer), children Jason Balmer, Christopher (Ellen) Torres, Angelia Matthiesen, and Timothy Matthiesen, grandchildren Kodi Torres, Jace Torres, Elliot Torres, Aden Torres, Jacob Wise, and Maine Lowry. His mother Nancy Matthiesen, siblings Dennis Matthiesen, David Matthiesen, Sharon (Steve) Lindstrom-Matthiesen, and Patricia Matthiesen, nephews Jason, Michael, Jimmy, and Dennis Jr. Matthiesen and niece Katelyn Lindstrom. Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, great nieces and nephews also survive. Preceded in death by his father Kenneth Matthiesen and dear sister Donna Barnaby-Matthiesen.
Don graduated from Lincoln Way Central High School. Following his schooling, he proudly served his country with the United States Army. He worked his way up in the world of truck driving from the time he graduated until he became an owner/operator of Langer Transport Corporation, which was a title he wore proudly. However, he could not have taken more pride in anything than his family. Don was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother whose love extended far and wide. He was there for everyone and held an "open door policy", always inviting people into their home when life was taking its tolls on them. His welcoming nature, care, and devotion could help anyone get back up on their feet. His loved ones would let you know how boisterous he was, fondly remembering the way his voice echoed across crowded rooms. He was beloved for how loud, talkative, and expressive he was, and he used that voice and his incredible memory to share bunches of stories that got people hooked and kept them listening. Don was also a big fan of birdwatching and fishing, of which he got to enjoy so much every day he had the chance to partake in, especially on his camping and boating trips with Kim and the kids. He was a very good man that was gone too soon, and he will be deeply missed by all who held him dear to their hearts.
Memorial Visitation for Don will take place at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home on Saturday, November 1, 2025 from 1:00 P.M. until his Time of Sharing at 5:00 P.M. Arrangements entrusted to Forsythe Gould Funeral Home, 507 S. State St., Manhattan, IL 60442, 815-478-3321, www.forsythegouldfh.com.
