Edward D. Flanigan April 28, 1937 – April 9, 2021 Edward "Ed" Flanigan, 83, of Elwood, formerly of Manhattan and Chicago, passed away peacefully at his home on April 9, 2021. Survived by his loving children; Mark, Elizabeth (Robert) Yacobi, Ellen (Robert) Tynor, Kathleen (Daniel) Penwitt, Patrick (Amanda), Matthew (Melissa), Maureen, Martin (Brittney), Joseph (Susan), MaryAnne, and Brian. Loving grandfather to twenty-four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law Leslee, sister-in-law Judith and cherished uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. Preceeded in death by his father and mother, Matthew and Dorothy Flanigan, his beloved wife Ellen (nee O'Meara), his eldest son, Edward, infant grandson Samuel, brother, Matthew and sister, Geraldine. Ed was a man devoted to family, faith, and a great bottle of red wine. He retired from Seymour of Sycamore in 2014 and enjoyed reading, cooking, and spending time at his Michigan lake cottage. Visitation will take place at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home, Manhattan, on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 from 3:00 -7:00 P.M. Funeral service will be Thursday, April 15, 2021 beginning with prayers at 9:30 A.M. at the funeral home then procession to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Manhattan for 10:00 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial. Interment St. Joseph Guardian Angel Cemetery, Manhattan. Masks and social distancing are required at all services. Ed's family completely respects your decision to attend or not attend due to the pandemic. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ed's name may be given to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 235 W. North St., Manhattan, IL 60442 in loving memory of Fr. James O'Malley, or to Joliet Area Community Hospice, 250 Waterstone Circle, Joliet, IL 60431.
