Edwin E. Gordon, age 88, of New Lenox, Illinois, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2025, with family by his side in Iuka, Illinois.
Ed was born on June 4, 1937, in Joliet, Illinois, to Edward and Kathryn (Hendrickson) Gordon. He attended Joliet Central High School and would later meet the love of his life, Kathleen Brown, at Daveys Lanes bowling alley in New Lenox. They married in June of 1956 and spent 66 years together until Kathleen's death in 2023. Ed is survived by his children Elaine West, Edwin Jr (Jelyn) Gordon, JoAnn (Milton) George, Thomas (Marilyn) Gordon, William Gordon, John (Kim) Gordon, Michael Gordon, and Doug Gordon, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and sister Mary Schwartz of West Virginia.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen, grandchildren Rebecca Gordon and Kenneth Gordon, great grandchild Payton Burke, son-in-law Dale West, daughter-in-law Amy Gordon, four sisters and four brothers.
After high school, Ed served in the U.S. Army as a diesel mechanic. During his time in the military, he earned his GED. After the Army, Ed continued working as a diesel mechanic at Reynolds Metals in McCook, Illinois, for 44 years until his retirement in 1999. When he wasn't working, Ed was a Sunday school teacher and a deacon at Orland Park Bible Church for many years. Ed truly loved the Lord and was always ready to pull out his Bible and teach the Gospel to all his loved ones. He also coached softball, loved poetry, and was very good at fixing all things mechanical.
Ed truly adored his many grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved to take them for tractor rides whenever they visited.
Ed will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Cremation has been respectfully addressed, per his wishes. Family will receive friends at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home, 507 S. State St., Manhattan, Illinois, on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. Visitation will be from 12pm to 1pm, followed by the funeral service at 1pm. Inurnment with full military honors will take place at 2:30 at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
