Obituary

Elizabeth C. (nee Branchaw) Goodwin "Betty" "Betka" Age 86 of New Lenox, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Thursday, June 10, 2021 after a long battle with Lymphoma. Survived by her loving children, Mark (Dolly-deceased) Goodwin, Susan (Larry) Coyle, Kathleen (James) Mahoney, and David (Kerry) Goodwin. Betty was a devoted grandmother to ten grandchildren, Sean, Thomas and Colleen Coyle, Declan McInerney, Kaylin and Haydn Mahoney and Delaney, Cameron, Ava and Nolan Goodwin. Also survived by her sister Dolores (Chuck) Powers, sisters-in-law Luella Branchaw, Phyllis Goodwin and Jodie Facchina, brother-in-law Lawrence (Cheryl) Goodwin as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins and her best friend Mary Lou Berard. Preceded in death by her husband Thomas A. Goodwin (2014), her parents Louis and Catherine (nee Svircek) Branchaw, her sisters and brothers-in-law Cecilia and Lester Salisbury and Irene and Myles Murphy, her sister Dr. Bernadine Branchaw, her brother Edward Branchaw, brother-in-law Gordy Goodwin, her cousin Ray Brnca and her best friend Nancy Birsa. Betty was a graduate of Joliet Township High School Class of 1952 where she was a cheerleader and socialite. Betty and Tom helped plan reunions for many years after high school. Her social activities did not end there. Betty loved to get together with the "Lets Get Together Sometime Group" and the Pinochle "Club". Later in life, Tom and Betty enjoyed many traveling adventures including trips to Europe, cruises, and cross-country road trips while quizzing each other on Trivial Pursuit. She was a long-time active member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister. Betty also enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, and Jazzercise. Betty worked for many years as an administrative assistant at the Will County Credit Bureau, GR&S architect firm, Glenwood Medical Group, and the Joliet Central Dean's Office. Betty was a classy lady and she was strong beyond words. Above all, Betty loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Visitation for Betty will be on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 from 4-8:00 P.M. at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home, Manhattan. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, 127 S. Briggs St., Joliet for with Fr. Chris Groh officiating. Interment SS Cyril and Methodius Cemetery, Joliet. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty's name to the Lymphoma Research Foundation by visiting www.lymphoma.org would be most appreciated.
