George L. Mandel, age 69, of Manhattan, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2018 at Joliet Area Community Hospice Home. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Gail (nee Klajbor), his three brothers; Robert Mandel, Raymond Mandel, and Leonard (Karen) Mandel, his sister-in-law Pam Mandel, one niece Ginger Mandel, two nephews Richard Mandel and Wayne Mandel, a great niece Morgan Mandel and his faithful feline companions "Buddy" and "Guy". Preceded in death by his Parents Robert and Audrey (nee Tallman) Mandel, his brother Wayne Mandel and his trusty canine companion "Astro". George was a veteran serving in the United States Marines. He was a warehouse manager for Air Filter Engineers where he met his wife Gail. After retiring, they moved to Florida where they resided for nine years. George was always lending a helping hand to anyone in need and that habit turned into a small business as the neighborhood handyman. George enjoyed fishing, old music, especially country and pets of all kinds. On occasion, George could be found sitting down with the elderly having an afternoon chat, even as a child the elderly held a special place in his heart. He was a simple man with simple pleasures and he will be missed by those that knew and loved him. Funeral service for George will be 12:00p.m. noon, Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home with Rev. Carol Currier-Frighetto officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service on the same day. Cremation to follow.
