George Ruban, age 92 of Elwood, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, IL. Survived by his children Robert G. Ruban and Janet Borst, granddaughters Jessica (Nick) Perry and Amy Borst, great grandson Isaac Perry, siblings Phillip (Carol) Ruban and Margaret Ruban-O’Brien, brother-in-law Roger (Barbara) and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his loving wife Janice (nee Gildemeister) Ruban, his parents George and Leona (nee Davis) Ruban, siblings Victor, Marian, Lorraine, Sharon, and Donald, and dearest great granddaughter Lilliana Morales.

George was born and raised in Chicago. He grew to proudly serve our nation in the U.S Navy as a Seaman. Following his time in service, he met his beloved Janice and married her on February 7, 1959. They built a strong family together then moved out to Country Club Hills for many years before spending the rest of their lives in Elwood, Illinois. George was a member of the Local 705 and 710 unions, working for several companies as a truck driver and ultimately retiring from Yellow Freight.

George was a devout Catholic and a long-term, active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Manhattan. He was also a Village of Elwood Trustee from 2009-2013. He was an avid traveler, going on many trips and cruises with Janice and happiest to be able to go anywhere that was new. He was exceptionally devoted to his children and grandchildren, constantly expressing his love and support by being a constant presence and attending all important events of theirs throughout the years. As a father, grandpa, great grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend to many, his presence, devotion, and positive spirit will be deeply missed.

Visitation for George will take place on Thursday, August 6, 2026 from 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home. Prayers will be held at 10:00 A.M. the next day, Friday, August 7, 2026 also at the funeral home, immediately followed by procession to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 235 W. North St., Manhattan, for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 A.M. Committal Service with full military honors will follow at 12:30 P.M. at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.
