Gerald "Jerry" Elder, age 75 , of Manhattan, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Ingalls Memorial Hospital, Harvey. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Linda (nee Barton) Elder, his children, Jay (Kristen) Elder of MI, Molly (Michael) Kuba of Dixon, his granddaughters, Grace and Lauren Elder, many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his canine companions, Violet and Bingo. Preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Rachael (nee Culp) Elder, his siblings, Orlo Simmons, Vernette Godfrey Nash, and Jeanne Shaw, and many faithful friends and animals. Jerry was a stock broker for over 20 years in Kankakee and more recently worked for Napleton Auto Werks in Bourbonnais, he was a long time board member of the Manhattan School District 114, and was known as a "Super Salesman" to many. He loved all animals, enjoyed music and the arts. One of his favorite pastimes/hobbies was riding and showing horses across the country with his daughter Molly at his side. As a younger man, Jerry excelled at all sports and was extremely athletic, in particular, tennis, skiing and golf were among his talents. His greatest joy in life was his family, especially sitting around with them telling his stories. Memorial service for Gerald Elder will be Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at 7:00p.m. at Forsythe Funeral Home. Visitation will be the same day from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service at 7:00p.m. Memorials to American Cancer Society or ASPCA would be most appreciated.
