Gordon J. Heitman, age 77, of Manhattan, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, April 28, 2015. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Patricia (nee Butler), his son, Alvin Heitmann of Milwaukee, WI, his daughter Bridget (Chris) Herzog of Elwood, his grandson, Alexander Herzog, his brothers, Robert (Debbie) Heitman and Gary Heitman, and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Mary L. and Victor F. Heitman and his brother Gerald Heitman. Gordon graduated from Joliet Township High School class of 1955, and he served in the U.S. Army, during the occupation of Korea. Gordon was employed by Heitman Trucking Company 1959-1967, V. Heitman and Sons 1967 - 1991, Joliet Sand and Gravel 1991-1999 as a truck driver and was a heavy equipment operator. Gordon enjoyed antique tractors and steam shows and attending county fairs, he was a simple man who was content with his life. Funeral service for Gordon will be 8:00 p.m., Friday, May 1, 2015 at Forsythe Funeral Home with Rev. Carol Currier Frighetto officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. Cremation to follow. Private interment Manhattan Center Cemetery.
