Haroldene (Dene) M. Wasetis (nee Coates), age 76, of Elwood, formerly of Kankakee, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 31, 2023, at Advocate Christ Medical Center with loving family at her side. Survived by her husband of 60 years Gary Wasetis, her children Denise (Robert) Utter, Michele (Douglas Mann) Lensink, Kenneth (Kimberly) Wasetis, grandchildren Kelsey (Michael Calzolaio) Utter, Ryan (Katie Morrissette) Utter, Madeline Utter, Zachary (Kyler) Lensink, Alexander (Avery Jackson-Lensink) Lensink, great grandchild Liam Utter, sister-in-law Carol (Richard) Morales, brothers-in-law James (Abby) Wasetis, Dr. Jeffrey (Marty) Wasetis, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Preceded in death by her parents Harold and Elethea (nee Hammond) Coates, son-in-law Scott Lensink and brother-in-law Robert Wasetis. Haroldene was born and raised in Kankakee and attended Kankakee High School. She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Manhattan. She was blessed with a green thumb and loved to take care of her plants, inside and out. She loved to fish with her husband on their boat, often on their many summer trips to Canada. She was a lifelong learner who loved reading her books on the balcony over the ocean, watching the dolphins, in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, where she and her husband wintered for over 25 years. Most of all she loved spending time with her family, cooking for an army, and giving infamous great hugs. Haroldene was a loving wife, mom, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Memorial Visitation for Haroldene will take place on Friday, August 4, 2023, from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at St. Jude Catholic Church, 241 W 2nd Ave, New Lenox, IL 60451. Funeral Service will take place the same morning, at St. Jude Catholic Church beginning at 11:00 A.M. Cremation rites have been accorded.
