James G. Blevins, age 72, of Manhattan, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at his home with family at his side. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Linda (nee Schein), his children; Brian (Amy) Blevins, James Blevins, Laurie (Don) Carter, and Keith (Patty) Blevins, his grandchildren; Alexandria Blevins-Carter, Alaina Carter, and Donnie Carter, Michael Blevins, Jessica Blevins, Caitlin Blevins, Megan Blevins, and Tyler Hollenbach, his sisters; Patricia Chidester Carron of Frankfort, and Norma Elder of MO, his step-father, Glen Chidester, one brother-in-law, John (Cheryl) Perek of IN, numerous nieces and nephews and his faithful canine companion, Bree. Preceded in death by his father, Onis Blevins and his mother Patty Chidester, one son in infancy, Christopher, her sisters, Peggy Honsinger and Roberta Nagal, and one brother, Larry Blevins. James was a proud Army veteran, a member of the 101st Airborne Division of Fort Campbell, Kentucky; he was a former Will County Deputy, a Statesville Correctional Officer, and a Frankfort Volunteer EMT and ended his working career at the New Lenox Park District. In his spare time he coached softball for the New Lenox Girls Softball Association (NLGSA) for several years. James was a family man, a loving husband, dad, and papa who will be missed. Visitation will be Sunday, November 5, 2017 from 2:00 – 6:00 P.M. at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home, Manhattan. Funeral service for James will be 10:15 A.M., Monday, November 6, 2017 with Deacon Milt Lepert officiating. Interment will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at 11:30 A.M. with full military honors. In Lieu of flowers donations to the family to defray the cost of the funeral would be most appreciated.
