Obituary

Jeffrey W. Findley, age 62 of Elwood, passed away on November 8, 2024 with his loving family at his side. He was born to Stanley and Brenda West (nee Sylvester) on April 12th, 1962. He attended Elwood Grade School and graduated early from Joliet East High School in December 1979 out of a 1980 graduating class.

Jeff had a great, but morbid sense of humor- nothing was off limits. He had a great work ethic and often worked two jobs at once. He had a foul mouth and a deep sense of loyalty to his friends. He would help anyone in need if he could. Jeff worked hard, played hard, drank hard, and he could be your best friend or your worst enemy- he lived for vengeance. Putting kindly, he was often described as quick-tempered and outspoken- straight and to the point. Though other words may have been used, he wore those titles proudly. Jeff would tell it "how it was" and was usually right. In 1974, Jeff's mom remarried, and he took his stepdad's last name since his real father was intermittent in his life.

Jeff spent summers in Arcola, IL with his great aunt, uncle, and cousin. He loved it down there and hated coming home a week before school started. Jeff was also an animal lover because he had to be- his mom had so many. He built all the pens and fences for her self-funded shelter. His favorites were the ferret, racoons, and pet whitetail deer, Dolly. Jeff loved Rottweilers. He had 4 over the course of many years and one AmStaff Terrier, Buddy- the biggest, dumbest, most loveable dog anyone would ever meet. Jeff sat with his dogs to say goodbye when they were put to sleep and cried like a baby- he wasn't afraid to say so.

Jeff leaves behind his loving wife Christine "Pookie" Findley (nee Klemp), his beloved son Justin Findley, and his uncle Phillip Sylvester. Preceded in death by his mom Brenda Findley and grandparents Russ and Wilma (nee Nixon) Sylvester.

Jeff liked old cars, trucks, Harley's and heavy metal music. He was an avid collector of Budweiser paraphernalia and a gun owner. He worked for Will County D.O.T. He started as a truck driver, took a shop worker job, and then became the dispatcher- a job he truly loved. Jeff was diagnosed in 2023 with leukemia.
