Helen Joan Satterthwait (Ms. Joanie) age 82, of Joliet (formerly of Manhattan) Passed away February 28, 2019 after complications from a severe stroke. She is survived by her loving son Danny, sister Betty Early, nieces Amie Lauer and Stacie Early and her daughter-in-law Amy. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 Years Francis (Frank) son Mark, brother Bruce Levingston (18 months), nephew Andy Early, and her parents Vernon and Helen (Combs) Levingston. Joan was born March 16, 1936 in Collinsville, IL. and was a graduate of Mexico MO. High School. Joan was a long-time employee of the Montgomery Ward store in Joliet up until the store closed in 2001. Ms. Joanie was a sweet, loving, Christian woman. She loved to bake and make treats for her friends. No one ever had to leave her house without enjoying something delicious to eat first. She never had an unkind word for anyone and she always saw the best in people. Ms. Joanie always had a big smile for everyone and was especially fond of giving and receiving many hugs. Joan was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and was devoted to Bible reading and study as well as being diligent in attendance to all the services of the Church. She and Frank imparted their strong faith and reverence for God to both of their sons. Joan understood that how we live in this life will be called into account on the final judgement day, and so she lived her life in obedience to God. Funeral service for Joan will be on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. with Loy Fulfer officiating. A memorial visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. Inurnment with committal service will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood at a later date.
