John P. McGuire late of Manhattan, IL formerly of New Lenox and Chicago, IL passed away peacefully in hospice care at Sunny Hill Nursing Home in Joliet.
Preceded in death by his parents Catherine (Hyland) and Patrick J. McGuire; his brother Bernard, J. McGuire; his sister Kay and brother-in-law Chuck Wallace, and brother-in-law Bob Roethel.
Survived by sister Helen Roethel, beloved wife Annette McGuire, 6 children, 18 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
John was a man of great integrity, industry, honesty, imagination, and fun! After graduating St. Rita High School in 1945, John joined the U.S. Marines where he served two years. Receiving his GI bill, he studied Mechanical Engineering, he became a master of fixing everything mechanical, electrical, structural. He also mastered woodworking and fun!
John married Annette May 21, 1955 and they were soon blessed with 6 children: Maureen Glosson, Michael (Mary Ann) McGuire, Celeste (Mark) Rupsis, Timothy (Mary Dedelow), Paul (Laura) McGuire, Terrence (Andrea) McGuire. John's 18 grandchildren Christopher (Haley) McGuire, Ashley (Steve) Tiggelaar, Daniel McGuire, Morgan McGuire, Mary Glosson, Katherine Glosson, Brian (Dana) Andrews, Sean Andrews, Neil Andrews, Ryan McGuire, Meghan McGuire, Tom (Monica) McGuire, Matthew McGuire, Joseph McGuire, Mitchell McGuire, Claire McGuire, Noah McGuire, and Elijah McGuire, and great grandsons Kenny Andrews and Owen Tiggelaar. John is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
After more than forty years' work, John retired in 1989 and began traveling with his bride and trusty travel trailer throughout the U.S., Canada, and Nova Scotia. John loved music, dancing, singing in the Blackhawk choir and the St. Jude New Lenox choir. We wish to sincerely thank all the dear, caring people who provided compassion, love and a gentle touch to ease John's and our lives over these past several months at Sunny Hill. God Bless you all.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial visitation will be Thursday, February 2, 2017 from 3-7 PM at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home, 507 S. State St (Rt. 52), Manhattan. Funeral services will be from Forsythe Gould Funeral Home Friday, February 3 at 10:45 a.m. to the St. Jude Church, 241 W. 2nd Ave, New Lenox for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. Interment with military honors Abraham Lincoln Cemetery, Elwood, IL. Memorial donations in John's name may be directed to Joliet Area Community Hospice or Sunny Hill Nursing Home.
