John C. Woodside, age 99, of Tinley Park passed away peacefully at his home with his loving family at his side. Survived by his daughter Ruth (Dave Thomas) Woodside, son John B. (Debbie) Woodside, daughter-in-law Mary Jane (Tom) Bayer, grandchildren Adam John (Erin) Woodside, Eric James (Jenna) Woodside and Rachel Ann Woodside, his great grandchildren Stevie Jane Woodside and Johnny James Woodside and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and great great nieces and great great nephews. Preceded in death by his parents John S. and Edna P. Woodside, his wife Florence G. Woodside, his siblings Harley Woodside, Eugene Woodside, Helen Stinnett, Everett Woodside and Gloria Huffman and four children in infancy. John was a graduate of Auburn High School in Auburn, IL. He also attended Cosmetology school in Springfield, IL and Business School in Peoria, IL. John was drafted into the U.S. Army and served his country during WWII. John and Florence were childhood sweethearts; they met on a farm in Divernon, IL, and married in 1949. He moved to Chicago and worked at a trucking company. John then got a job at GA Mavon and Company, an insurance company, as a bookkeeper and retired as treasurer. John was a lifetime member of the American Legion, DAV Organization and was a member of several other veteran organizations. John attended Calvary Baptist Church for several years in Tinley Park. He was an avid reader, he especially liked reading about politics. John kept several causes near and dear to his heart and donated faithfully to Salvation Army, Pacific Garden Mission in Chicago, WTTW, and the Moody Bible Institute. John also enjoyed watching Christian programs, especially Jim Baker, Oral Roberts, Jimmy Swaggart and Billy Graham. John was a Christian at heart, he was always concerned about the unfortunate and consistently donated to various causes to help those in need. Visitation for John Woodside will be on Friday, February 16, 2024, from 9 - 11:00 A.M. Tinley Park American Legion will render military honors at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. The funeral ceremony will take place at 11:15 A.M. also at the funeral home. Committal service with full military honors will take place the same day at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL at 1:00 P.M.
