Obituary

Joseph A. Haleem, age 67, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2022, with family at his side. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Linda, children, Adam (Rita), Joanna (Adam) Jennrich, Ali (Danae), Leila (Andy Peterson), grandchildren, Joshua, Jaxson, Castin, Lana, Amelia, Delilah, Aubrey, Logan, Caleb, mother, Mary, sisters, Mimi, ZeaZea, Syria Smiley, brother Perry (Zaynab), nephew Aidan Smiley and niece, Jenna Smiley. Many more nieces and nephews also survive. Joseph is preceded in death by his father, Addel, brother, Hassen and brother-in-law, Dave Smiley. Joseph attended Hubbard High School in Chicago and graduated in the class of 1972. During his time at Hubbard, he was an honor student and class president all four years. Joseph also took part in having the school install a swimming pool where his name has been engraved. He also took credit for having a jukebox installed in the cafeteria. After high school, Joseph enlisted in the United States Navy. He began his basic training in Orlando, FL and then moved onto New Orleans, Louisiana and Norfolk, Virginia where he completed fleet intelligence training. Joseph was then attached to fighter squadron FITRON VF126 in Miramar, California. After his time in the Navy, he went to Governors State University where he obtained a bachelor's degree in accounting in 1995 and his master's degree in 2016. While obtaining his bachelor's degree, Joseph was a member of the university's debate team. After graduation, he started his own firm called Haleem Tax and Preparation Inc. In his spare time, Joseph attended public speaking events through the Toastmasters International Organization. He loved to travel to San Diego and would visit the ocean and the San Diego Zoo. Joseph also took pleasure in taking trips with his family to Disney World and always enjoyed cheering on the White Sox, Bears, Blackhawks and Bulls whenever they played. What brought Joseph most joy was spending time with his grandchildren. Visitation for Joseph will take place on Sunday, May 15, 2022, from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home in Manhattan. Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at 12:30 P.M. also at the funeral home. Interment with full military funeral honors will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood. Arrangements entrusted to Forsythe Gould Funeral Home, 507 S.
