Obituary

Joseph J. Murdie, age 64, of Manhattan passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at his home with his loving family at his side, after a courageous battle with SCA3 (Spinocerebellar Ataxia). Survived by his devoted wife of 32 years Donna (nee Bucciferro) Murdie, his children Angela (Brian) Beasley, Joseph Murdie, and Michael (Fiancé Maralys) Murdie, his grandchildren Madison Keenan, Landon Beasley, Lilian Murdie, and Joseph Murdie, his siblings Peggy Nugent and Patricia (Dave) Propst, his mother-in-law Lois Bucciferro, his sisters-in-law Audrey Murdie and Mary (Harold) Kazier, his brothers-in-law Jim (Judy) Bucciferro, John (Kathy) Bucciferro, Joe (Sheri) Bucciferro, and Robert (Paula) Bucciferro, numerous nieces and nephews, and his faithful canine companion "Ginger". Preceded in death by his parents Gordon and Rosetta (nee Evans) Murdie, his father-in-law Dominic Bucciferro, his sisters and brothers-in-law Sandy and Doug Cullen and Sharon and Ralph Colvin, his brothers Gordon Murdie Jr. and James Murdie and nieces and nephews. Joe was a graduate of Peotone High School class of 1978. Joe was a teamster and drove for Georgia Pacific Lumber for several years. Later Joe became a Real estate agent for Coldwell Banker. Joe found his true calling when he got involved in building codes and inspections. He truly enjoyed his position in Romeoville as a building inspector and would often do his own personal inspections informing his family of violations while on vacation. Joe was an active member of St. Jude Catholic Church, New Lenox and was a member of Christ Renews His Parish. He enjoyed playing candy crush on his computer, playing and teaching the grandkids chess, and board games of all kinds. Joe was a true family man; he loved woodworking and took great joy in making all kinds of gifts for his family and friends. Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Visitation for Joe will take place on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 from 10:00 A.M. -11:00 A.M. at St. Jude Catholic Church, New Lenox. Mass of Christian burial will immediately follow visitation at 11:00 A.M.
