Kay F. Preuss, age 87 of Steger, IL, passed away peacefully in her home on May 12, 2026. Survived by her loving children Kurt (Joan) Preuss, Scott (Sheila) Preuss, Frank Preuss, Paul Preuss, and Jennifer (Michael) Schmidt; grandchildren Christina (Mike), Kyle, Scott (Monica), Mark, Brian, Jack, Kimberly, Nicole, Kirsten, and Kaylie; great-grandchildren Eleanor, Scarlett, Madelyn, Maxwell, and Pierce; and an adored aunt to many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her beloved husband Donald F. Preuss; parents Forrest Near and Jeanette (nee Smith) Near-Siebert; siblings Paul (Jackie) Near and Carolyn (Keith) Ginther; and daughter-in-law Ann Preuss.

Kay attended Chicago Vocational High School. She met and married the love of her life, Donald, and together they built and nurtured their big, beautiful family. Kay stayed home to care for their household and children—a role she embraced with dedication and grace every step of the way. She was selfless by nature and the kind of person others were naturally drawn to, always ready with a helping hand and a hearty meal. Though she could be quiet, she became the true life of the party when surrounded by loved ones. Her gift for hosting made their home a central gathering place for weekends, holidays, and special occasions, with Donald at the grill for many cherished barbecues. She loved working in the yard and spending time outdoors. Kay was easy to please and lived a full, proud life. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Per Kay's wishes, cremation will take place. A Celebration of Life will be held on June 28, 2026, from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home, immediately followed by a Memorial Service at 10:00 A.M., also at the funeral home.
