Kent C. Norris, age 73, of Elwood, IL passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at Silver Cross Hospital, New Lenox with is loving family at his side. Survived by his wife of 50 years Shirley (nee Skarda) Norris, his children Craig (Alison) Norris, Becky (David) Gilbert, and Brian (Barbara) Norris, his grandchildren Michael Norris, Katie Norris, Caroline Norris and Radek Gilbert. Preceded in death by his parents Robert and Lily (nee Bird) Norris and his brother David Norris. Kent was born and raised in Stugis, Michigan where he graduated from Sturgis High School class of 1967 and became a lifelong die-hard Michigan fan, "Go Blue". He went on to Vandercook College of Music in Chicago and graduated with a degree in Music Education. Kent's career was spent at Manhattan School District 114 where he was the band director and music teacher for 34 years. Kent played an instrumental role in promoting and building up the band program. Kent also enjoyed arranging music for that band over the years. He also coached basketball and track at the school. After retirement Kent could be found perfecting is lawn and his golf swing, he had a passion for golf, watching it and playing it, he even was able to attend a Masters Tournament which was a highlight of his life. He also took joy in reuniting with his teacher friends, reminiscing about the teaching years and keeping up with each other's lives was important to him. Kent is first and foremost a Michigan fan followed closely by a Yellowstone fan, watching either one was perfect time spent. Kent was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Visitation for Kent will take place on Monday, June 12, 2023 from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Funeral service will immediately follow visitation at 12:00 noon.
