LaVerne I. Byrne, age 88, of New Lenox passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at Lightways Hospice with her loving family at her side. Survived by her devoted children Rose Mary (Robert) Reinke, Mark Byrne, Catherine Peterson and JoAnn (James) Marshall, her grandchildren Michael Hibbs, Stephen Byrne, Jacquelyn Miller, Elijah Miller, Jessie Marshall and Jenna Marshall, her great grandchildren, Taylor, Parker, Ava, Havana, Harper and Sky, her siblings Dianna Hadlock, Ronald Basham, Roger Shifflet, Cody Shifflet, and Pam Boone and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her mother Ardith Wininger, her dear husband Michael Byrne (2002), and her brothers Keith Basham and Gary Basham. LaVerne was a graduate of Lincoln High School. She met her husband Mike through her cousin, they were wed shortly after and started their beautiful family. LaVerne embraced being a stay-at-home mom and according to her children, she was the best mother in the world. She was a hands on grandma as well, she babysat all of them throughout the years and enjoyed attending their events. LaVerne enjoyed reading, puzzles of all kinds, playing bingo, going to the movies, gardening and taking long walks, but what brought her most joy in life simply spending time with her family. All are welcome to attend her Mass of Christian burial which will take place on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 235 West North St., Manhattan, IL 60442. A private family viewing will take place the same day from 9:30 – 10:30 A.M. at the funeral home.
