Leonard Surdey, age 85, of Ocala, FL, formerly of Manhattan, IL passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 under the care of Estelle Hospice House, Ocala, FL. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Charlene (nee Lingholm), his children Lorie (Jeff) Burlison and Robert (Robin) Surdey, his five beloved grandchildren; Jason, Erin, Sean, Heather, and Justin, his four adored great grandchildren; Jasmine, Marie, Candace and Evan, his brother Frank "Cecil" Surdey, and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his son Leonard "Mike" Surdey. Leonard was successful at everything he put his mind to. He worked hard, was a man of great integrity and was respected and admired by all that knew him. Leonard was born in Joliet, IL on May 3, 1933 to John and Pauline Surdey. He served our country in the U.S. Army. Leonard worked at Illinois Bell and retired in 1992 after 27 years. Leonard was a faithful Christian and attended church until the time of his death. Funeral service for Leonard will be 12:00 noon, Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home with Pastor Douglas Golden officiating. Visitation will be the same day from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. Interment with full military honors at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood will take place at 1:30 P.M. following the funeral service.
