Obituary

Marcia Schouten, age 77, of Manhattan, passed away peacefully at her home with family at her side on Friday, March 18, 2016. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Neil Schouten, two sons John Schouten and Jim (Ruth Geyer) Schouten, one sister Rita (Fergus-deceased) O'Connor of Northbrook, one brother James (Cheri) Vander Voort of WI, three sisters-in-law Mary McMullen Kahle of Orland Park, Dorothy (Glen) Weber of Champaine, and Davida Vander Voort of Fl., and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents Theodore and Connie Vander Voort, one brother Richard Vander Voort and one sister-in-law Betty Friberg Kale. Marcia was born in Chicago and raised in Tomahawk WI. She married in 1962 and moved to Manhattan in 1972. After raising her boys, Marcia worked as a secretary for several years for a number of construction companies. She was a member of St. Joseph Church and of the CCW. She also served as President on the Manhattan Elwood Library board and was on the board when the new library was built. One of Marcia's favorite hobbies was quilting, some of her favorite work can be found displayed in her home. Funeral service for Marcia Schouten will be 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, March 23, 2016 in procession from Forsythe Gould Funeral Home to St. Joseph Church, 235 West North Street, Manhattan, for 11:30 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation will be the same day from 9-11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Cremation to follow. Inurnment St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date.
