Margaret J. "Aunt Maggie" Smolich, age 99, of Crest Hill passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning of Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at her niece's home. She is survived by her loving niece with whom she resided for the past 15 years, Linda (Scott) Dyke, special great nephew and great niece, Martin "Joel" (Orsola) Sovich and Katherine (Greg) Cash, three nieces that always remembered her birthday; Anna Mae Hibler, Judy Bolte, and Sandy Burla, and many other numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, her faithful canine companions; Jazzy, Monty, Oreo, Onslow, and Reese and one brother. Preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Catherine (nee Spelich) Smolich, her siblings; Jennie (Rudolph) Dernulc, Mary (John) Strysik, Katherine Smolich, Anna (Frank) Panian, Frances Sovich, Anton (Mary) Smolich, Frank (Sophie) Smolich, infant brother Joseph, Edward (Evelyn) Smolich, Louis (Geraldine) Smolich, a brother-in-law, Martin J. Sovich, several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins, and her beloved canine companions, Pepper, Ozzy and Lucy. Margaret was born in South Wilmington and moved to Crest Hill in 1925. She graduated from St. Joseph Grade School and worked for many years at the American Can. Margaret was a long time parishioner of St. Joseph Church, Joliet, the Altar and Rosary Society, and the American Fraternal Union Lodge #66. She enjoyed horse races, going to the OTB, and the river boats. She especially enjoyed yodeling, country music and George Strait. Aunt Maggie was a special woman who definitely did it her way. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, November 4, 2017 at St. Anthony Church, 100 N. Scott St., Joliet, with Fr. Jim Lennon officiating. Visitation also be at St. Anthony Church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of Mass. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, Joliet.
