Obituary

Mark J. Flanigan, age 60 of Wilmington, IL, passed away unexpectedly on May 9, 2025. Survived by siblings Elizabeth (Rob) Yacobi, Ellen (Bob) Tynor, Kathleen (Dan) Penwitt, Patrick (Amanda) Flanigan, Matthew Flanigan, Maureen Flanigan, Martin (Brittney) Flanigan, Joseph (Susan) Flanigan, MaryAnne Flanigan, Brian Flanigan, loving aunts and uncles, numerous nieces and nephews, and sister-in-law Leslee Flanigan. Preceded in death by his parents Edward and Ellen (nee O'Meara) Flanigan, brother Edward Flanigan, and nephew Samuel Flanigan.

Mark's character was shaped amidst his large, close-knit family on Manhattan farmland. He attended St. Joseph's Catholic School in his youth and graduated from Providence Catholic High School in 1983. While he worked for Tri-Star and Brakur Cabinet companies for many years, Florida became the backdrop for his successful entrepreneurial venture, "TradeM@rk, Inc.," where his mastery as an avid wood craftsman became well known. His dedication extended beyond business as he devoted many years to caring for his father, showcasing his selflessness and loving nature.

Mark had a passion for music, especially when it came to classic rock. Known for his special sense of humor, he had the "gift of gab" that made every encounter with him memorable. To his family and friends, he was a rock, source of joy, and a jokester who could effortlessly lift one's spirits. He was a great family man who would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He will be remembered for his personability and generosity. A loving son, brother, uncle, and friend who will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

Per Mark's wishes, cremation will take place. Private Memorial Services will be held in his honor. In lieu of flowers, Mark would wish for donations to be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 230 W Monroe St Suite 200, Chicago, IL 60606, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 5501 N Cumberland Ave #101, Chicago, IL 60656, as those were his favorite charities. Arrangements entrusted to Forsythe Gould Funeral Home, 507 S. State St., Manhattan, IL 60442, 815-478-3321, www.forsythegouldfh.com.
