Mary E. Buckie (nee Bottum), age 90, of Manteno, passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2013 at the Illinois Veteran's Home, Manteno. She is survived by her two sons, Bill (Lynn) Buckie of CO and Joseph R. (Mary Catherine) Buckie of Downers Grove, one daughter, Mary Alice (Thomas) Scollard of Oak Forest and her grandchildren, Allison, Bill, Meghan, Christine, Marjorie, Michaelene and Henry and one great-grandchild, Macy. Preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary Bottum, one brother, George L. Bottum, and her Aunt Alice and Aunt Gert. Mary grew up in Chicago where she attended St. Scholastica Academy. She attended and graduated with her teaching degree from Mundelein College. After graduation, Mary immediately enlisted in the Navy and is a WWII Veteran. In 1948, she married the love of her life, William B. Buckie, Jr. Mary taught for over 20 years at St. Mary's in Downers Grove. In her early childhood years, Mary was raised by her Aunt Alice and Aunt Gert. Their influence on Mary was immeasurable. Funeral service for Mary will be Monday, December 30, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. from Forsythe Funeral Home in procession to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 235 West North Street, Manhattan, for 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation will be the same day from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood. Memorials to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or Alzheimer's Association would be most appreciated.
