Obituary

Age 95, of Manhattan, IL passed away peacefully, Saturday, June 10, 2017 at her home. Born May 9, 1922 in Jamestown, NY to the late Ignazio and Maria (nee Ballanca) Capizzi. Mary was born and raised in Jamestown, NY. During WWII she worked as Rosie the Riveter building planes. She graduated from Rosary College in River Forest, IL receiving her degree in dietetics. She served her internship at Cook County hospital where she met her future husband, Lawrence Lee. They married and settled in Manhattan in 1953. Mary then worked at Silver Cross Hospital as a registered dietician. She was a very active long time member of the St. Joseph Parish in Manhattan. She also volunteered at Shepherds Table and Silver Cross Hospital for many years. Surviving are three daughters, Mary Ann Cochran of Manhattan, Nancy Carroll of Manhattan, and Patti (Charles) Blatti of Elwood, IL; three sons, Lawrence T. (Antoinette) Lee, Thomas D. (Deborah) Lee, and Robert V. (Kimberly) Lee, all of Manhattan; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; one sister, Josie Reif of California; brother-in-law, Robert E. Lee of Rochchester, MN; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband of forty-three years, Lawrence D. Lee, M.D.; an infant son; three grandchildren, John Michael Carroll and two in infancy; and two brothers, Joseph and Fr. Simeon Capizzi, OFM. Rosary service will be Wednesday, June 14 at 9:00 a.m. at the Forsythe Gould Funeral Home: 507 S. State St. (Rt. 52), Manhattan, with procession at 9:30 a.m. to the St. Joseph Church: 255 W. North St., Manhattan. for the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Visitation Tuesday, June 13 from 3-8 p.m. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name to St. Joseph Church or Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated.
