Mary E. Lopez (nee Vollmer), age 59, of Elwood, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with breast cancer surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Lightways Hospice Home, Joliet. Survived by her devoted husband of 40 years Victor Lopez, her children Lauren (Joseph) Geiselman, Stephanie (John Nuckles) Lopez, and Molly (Jon) Mulick, her grandchildren Evelyn, Lilly, Arianna and Grant, her siblings Catherine (Otis) Scholtes, Joan (Tom) Kennedy, John (Jody) Vollmer and Timothy Vollmer, her sister-in-law Jody (Arthur) Vasquez and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Preceded in death by her parents Harold and Herbadine Vollmer and her sister Amy in infancy. Mary was a graduate of Joliet East High School and she proudly served her country with the United States Marine Corps. Mary was an avid Chicago Bears fan and she also enjoyed traveling, hiking and anything outdoors. She and her family made many lasting memories in Moab Utah. Mary was very active the Elwood community. She served on the Elwood Village Board and was instrumental in the Elwood community Days. Mary was an active mother and grandmother, never missing an event and was always their biggest cheerleader. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Visitation for Mary will take place on Monday, April 29, 2024 from 4-8:00 P.M. at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home. Funeral service will take place the following day, Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at 9:15 A.M. also at the funeral home. Internment and committal service with full military honors will immediately follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood at 10:30 A.M.
