Obituary

Mary Ann Szymanek, age 80, of Manhattan formerly of Frankfort passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at Northwestern Medicine Palos Hospital, Palos Heights. Survived by her son Randy (Violeta Mercado) Szymanek, her grandchildren Kaylee Szymanek and James Szymanek, bonus grandchildren Jessica Mercado and Julian Mercado, three nephews Cary (Joi) Szymanek, Scott (Patricia) Szymanek, and Frank (Marie) Szymanek and her sister-in-law Darlene Szymanek. Preceded in death by her parents Frank and Viola Szymanek, her brother Frank Szymanek, her sister Francis Papiernik and niece Marian Papiernik. Mary Ann was born and raised in Chicago. She enjoyed gardening flowers and vegetables, reading, watching Chicago Sports and game shows. Mary Ann was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Manhattan. She had a strong work ethic and did all she could as a single mom to raise her son. Mary Ann was a loving mom and grandma, and she will be missed by all who knew her. Visitation for Mary Ann will be on Monday, July 24, 2023, from 5-8:00 P.M. at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home. Funeral service will be on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, beginning with prayers at 9:30 A.M. then process to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 235 W. North St., Manhattan for 10:00 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial.
