Michael Deitch, age 73, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2020 spending his final days with his three children at his side and with visits from his close circle of friends and golfing buddies. Born at South Shore Hospital on March 20, 1947 to Edna and Gene Deitch, Mike grew up on the south side of Chicago graduation from Mendel High School before attending Chicago Teachers College. There he met his future wife Cyndi, whom he wed in 1969 at St. Dennis Parish. They began their teaching careers at Blue Island School District 130 and were married 29 years before she passed away in 1998. They raised three children, Matt (Victoria) Deitch, Chris (Maria) Deitch and Allison (Tracy) Matson. He was a dedicated father who taught his children to throw a baseball, always take a jacket just in case, and above all, just do their best. Mike retired from Kerr Middle School in 2004 and spent his retirement traveling the U.S. and the world to visit his children, playing golf, riding his bike and entertaining friends in his home. He was a lifelong suffering south side Chicago Cubs fan, withstanding heartbreak in 1969 and 1984. He also fell asleep during the rain delay in Game 7 in 2016, thereby missing out on what should have been the greatest moment of his adult life. Mike was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed. In addition to his children and their spouses, he is survived by his grandchildren Juliana, Rubin, and Asher, nephew Dale (Sheryl) Mikols and great niece and great nephew Nicole and Ryan, his brothers-in-law Martin Jaeger and Bill Jaeger, sister-in-law Beth Jaeger and their families, as well as a host of friends who became family. Services for Mike will be private. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Legacy at Evergreen Senior Living in Orland Park for their kindness and compassion. Memorials may be made to Kerr Middle School PTO and the Chicago History Museum. Arrangements entrusted to nephew Dale Mikols and Forsythe Gould Funeral Home, Manhattan, IL. www.forsythegouldfh.com.
