Michael Joseph McNicholas, age 85 of New Lenox, passed away on October 6, 2024. Survived by his stepchildren Mary Brizich Sweeney, James Sweeney, Kevin Sweeney, and Patrick (Colleen) Sweeney and grandchildren Patrick, Mary (John), Jennifer, Kathleen, Seamus, Eileen, Liam, Briana, and Quinn Sweeney. Preceded in death by his parents, the late Thomas and late Mary McNicholas (nee Gavaghan), his beloved wife late Mary Denise McNicholas (nee Owens), and his siblings the late Mary "Josie" (late Michael) Brody, late John (Nora "Carmel") McNicholas, late William McNicholas, late Catherine "Kitty" (late Ole) Haegeland, and late Anthony "Tony" McNicholas. Cherished uncle, cousin, and friend to many.
Michael served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960 and was stationed in Germany as a mechanic and truck driver. He worked for several plumbing companies before starting his own business, McNicholas Plumbing and Sewer, in 1981 which he operated until he retired in 2007. Mike had a big heart for animals and took care of horses, dogs, cats, and birds. He enjoyed listening to Irish music, reading, learning about history, and watching old Western movies.
Visitation for Michael will take place on Friday, October 25, 2024, from 10:00-11:00AM at St. Jude's Catholic Church, 241 W. 2nd Ave., New Lenox, IL, with Mass of Christian Burial starting at 11:00AM. Procession will immediately follow to Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL for military honors and committal service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Cancer Society (donate.cancer.org). Arrangements entrusted to Forsythe Gould Funeral Home, 507 S.
