Michael T. Merritt, age 68, of Elwood, passed away peacefully at his home with family at his side on Tuesday, December 15, 2020. He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years Christine Ross, his children Scott Merritt and Jennifer (Eric) Garritson, two grandchildren and his faithful canine companions Sam, Dave, Heidi, Hannah and Fritz. Preceded in death by his parents Orion and Evelyn (Wooley) Merritt and three furry friends Ruby Tuesday, Jasper and Rosie. Michael served his country with the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a pilot with the 101st Airborne Division. He attended DeVry where he received his associate's degree. Mike worked at Argonne National Laboratory for a number of years. He had a passion for cars, muscle cars, antique cars, model cars and collectible cars. Mike also built Pullman, Amtrak and Metra cars. Mike was always busy, when he wasn't building or tinkering with a car, he could often be found doing yardwork, gardening or anything outdoors. Interment for Michael will take place on a future date at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL with full military honors.
