Neil R. Schouten, age 82, of Manhattan, passed peacefully at his home with his boys at his side and also his devoted care giver Deborah Potts, on Friday, March 6, 2020.
He is survived by his two sons Jon of Manhattan, and and Jim (Ruth) of Wilton Center, two sisters, Mary (Bob – deceased) Kahle and Dorothy (Glenn) Weber and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents Neil C. and Marian Schouten, his wife of 54 years Marcia nee Vander Voort, one sister Betty and one infant son Daniel.
Neil was born and raised in Chicago. He spent his working years in the sheet metal trade as a member of Local 73 of Chicago and Local 265 of Will County. He married Marcia in 1962. They moved to Manhattan in 1972 and became very active in the community. He served on the Manhattan Planning Commission for several years. He loved to snow mobile and belonged to three different clubs. Marcia and Neil were fond of pulling their camper on extended road trips and have passed through most of the states. Neil was a devoted member of St. Joseph's parish and often attended daily Mass.
Funeral Service for Neil R. Schouten will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, March 11th, from Forsythe Gould Funeral Home in Manhattan to St. Joseph Catholic Church for 11:00 am Mass of Resurrection. Cremation will follow. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 10th from 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. Memorials to the Joliet Area Community Hospice or the American Cancer Society would be most appreciated.
