Paul "Pauly" Kestel" a.ka. "Crowbar" of Manhattan, passed away peacefully in his home with his loving family surrounding him on Saturday, January 2, 2021. Survived by his loving wife of 53 years Candy (nee Smith), his children Candy (John) Jesernik and Michael (Mary) Kestel, his grandchildren Nathan and Makayla Torsan, Zachary Jesernik, and Paul Kestel, his siblings Joan Reiter, Doug (Judy) Kestel and Don (Tammi) Kestel and numerous nieces, nephews and many close friends. Preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Marjorie (nee Hardy) Kestel, his daughter Dawn Kestel-Torsan and his granddaughter Gabriella Torsan. Paul was born and raised in the Manhattan area and was a successful farmer for 65 years. Paul was a member of the Joliet Pigeon Racing Club and he served on the board of directors for the "Manhattan Boys". Paul was a collector, he collected antique cars and John Deere tractors. He also enjoyed his hunting trips with friends to Gleason WI for 53 years. To sum up Pauly's life in an obituary is impossible and that is why there will be a celebration of life on a later date when the weather is warm, A Pauly Day! Pauly will be laid to rest next to his daughter Dawn at St. Joseph Cemetery, Manhattan on Monday, January 11, 2021. This committal service will be a private family only service. Pauly was a staple in the community, he was a bright thread in the fabric of Manhattan, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
