Peter Thornley, age 84, a resident of Naperville, IL since 1972, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2025, at Sunrise of Naperville North. He was born in May 1940 in Liverpool, England. Peter is survived by his beloved wife, Sheila (nee Turner); his loving children Melissa Beierwaltes and husband Paul of Woodridge, IL; Garreth Thornley and wife Michele of Palatine, IL; grandchildren Julianne Jacobsen and husband Chase; Colin Beierwaltes and Isabella Ellwein; and great-grandchild Nathan Beierwaltes. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Marjorie Thornley. Peter moved with his family to London, England from Liverpool where he attended the City of London school as a boy. He graduated from The University of Manchester with a PhD in Chemical Engineering. His future wife typed his thesis for him. He was offered a job by the Amoco Research Company in the states, and they moved to the USA. He spent his entire career with Amoco and retired in his 50's to enjoy his many interests including rugby, hiking, skiing, biking, gardening and spending time with his family. A celebration of Peter's life will take place at the Chicago Blaze Rugby Club in Lemont, IL on July 26, 2025, from 1:00pm - 4:00 pm.
