Phillip Gerard Murray, age 37, of Peotone passed away tragically on Thursday, March 21, 2024 as a result of an automobile accident. Survived by his loving mother Laura (nee Rossi), his siblings Nicole (Hue) Chen, Megan Murray, Francis (Margaret) Murray, and Alanna Murray, his nieces and nephews Daniel Francis Murray II, Annaliese Murray, Rose Murray and Gabriel Murray, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Preceded in death by his father Daniel Francis Murray only 3 months prior, his paternal grandparents Francis Gerard and Merna (nee Winstrom) Murray, his maternal grandparents and Lawrence and Lorayne (nee Brandl) Rossi, his uncles Larry Noreuil and Dr. Richard Foellner, his Godmother and aunt Sue Cooper, his cousins Johnny Rossi and Michelle Rossi.
Phil was a graduate of Providence Catholic High School and studied at Joliet Junior College. Phil spent many years coaching basketball at St. Joseph Catholic School, Providence Catholic High School, and Franciscan University of Steubenville. After Coaching, he enjoyed many years working in the medical supply industry. After passing the test to obtain his license to sell insurance, he recently was working in the insurance industry with great passion and success. He was a very hard-worker his whole life.
Phil was a longtime active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Manhattan and taught 7th grade religious education for several years as a volunteer. He had just submitted his application to seminary a couple weeks prior to his death.
Phil was passionate about sports and loved following every sports team. He had the most gentle, pure, humble, and sensitive soul. He had a gift for recognizing sincerity in others. He lived very simply and was very generous in giving of what he had. Phil had a great sense of humor and could really lighten the mood. He will be sorely missed by his grieving family and friends.
Visitation for Phil will be on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, from 4-8:00 P.M. at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home. Funeral service will take place on the following day, Wednesday, March 27, 2024, beginning with prayers at the funeral home at 10:30 A.M. followed by procession to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 235 W. North St., Manhattan for 11:00 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial. Interment Mount St. Patrick Cemetery, Wilton Center. Memorials in Phil's name to St. Joseph Catholic Church would be most appreciated.
