Richard "Dick" Ryan, age 78, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 30, 2024, with his loving family at his side. Survived by his wife of 50 years, Nancy (nee Kane), his children James Ryan and Thomas (Maggie) Ryan, his grandchildren Emma Ryan and Thomas Ryan, his siblings Maureen (Tim-deceased) Portal and Patricia (Bill) Holland, his brother-in-law Thomas (Lisa) Kane, nieces and nephews and his granddog "Finnegan". Preceded in death by his parents James and Nellie Ryan, his brother and sister-in-law James and Marge Ryan, his sister and brother-in-law Nancy and Ed McQuillan and his brother-in-law Dan Kane. Dick graduated from De La Salle High School. He then attended meat cutter school and became a butcher. He managed Cub Foods meat market for a number of years and later managed Jewel Meat Market from where he retired. Dick was a lifetime member of the 1546 UFCW (United Food & Commercial Workers) Union. He was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Manhattan. Dick was an avid newspaper reader, he also enjoyed bowling, golfing, watching the Chicago Bears, White Sox, Nascar, soccer, baseball and even the little league world series when it was on, but most of all, what brought Dick most joy was spending time with his family. Visitation for Dick will take place on Thursday, October 3, 2024 from 4-8:00 P.M. at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will take place Friday, October 4, 2024, beginning with prayers at the funeral home at 10:00 A.M. followed by procession to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 255 W. North St., Manhattan for 10:30 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial. Cremation will be respectfully addressed following services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dick's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital by visiting www.stjude.org and would be most appreciated.
